THE owners of a pub that closed suddenly say they hope it will soon re-open under new management.

The Schooner, on Seaton Carew’s Warrior Park housing estate, closed last Friday.

The pub’s owners, Birmingham-based Enterprise Inns, say they are in talks with several potential new managers, and hope it will be opened again soon and back to for business as usual.

They say that members of staff were told about the closure after being called to a meeting on Friday.

A spokesperson for Enterprise Inns said: “We are aware that the staff at the Schooner were told last Friday that the pub would be closing imminently due to the publican’s sudden decision to cease trading and leave.

“We received assurance that all staff were being paid up to date prior to the closure and were also to receive holiday pay as a gesture of thanks.

“We are currently in discussion with a number of individuals who are interested in taking this great community pub on with the aim of having it back trading as soon as possible and we hope that the staff who worked under the outgoing publican will be able to return to their jobs once the pub reopens.”

The Schooner’s Facebook page was updated on Friday saying it was closed until further notice.
