INTERESTED school pupils got a taste of China as they celebrated the Chinese New Year.

Youngsters from Lynnfield Primary School, in Grosvenor Street, Hartlepool, have been learning about the culture and celebrations of the Asian country.

As part of their learning, the children enjoyed a banquet of Chinese foods, with some even giving chopsticks their best shot.

Leanne Yates, deputy headteacher at the school, said the children have been extremely enthusiastic and have all thoroughly enjoyed the activities.

She said: “We set up our own Chinese restaurant in the school and the children split into groups as they tried the different foods.

“The pupils were absolutely brilliant.

“They gave everything a try and have shown a real interest in the project all week.”

Mrs Yates added: “In doing projects such as this one, the children learn a lot about different cultures.

“But it also touches on basic matters like table manners and speaking and listening skills.

“It’s a joy to see the youngsters having so much fun.”
