Purple plans will raise funds for Hartlepool hospice

A colourful fundraiser proved to be such a success that is it set to be extended.

Fundraisers at Hartlepool & District Hospice were so pleased with last year’s Purple Day event that they are staging their first ever Purple Week.

Fundraisers at the hospice are inviting people to support patients by taking part in fundraising activities themed around the hospice’s purple brand between March 19 and 25.

As well as wearing purple and making a donation or holding a collection, people can be as creative as they like from holding a purple cake sale to dying their hair purple to a ‘Purple Night’ of fundraising.

Hospice volunteer, Thomas Biggins, has set himself the huge challenge of running from Maryport to Hartlepool, across the Yorkshire Dales which he aims to complete in just two days starting on the March 21. People can support Thomas in his challenge by sponsoring him at www.justgiving.com/Thomas-biggins.

A ‘Curry-oke’ night will be held on Thursday, March 24, at Hartlepool Rugby Club in Easington Road, offering curry and karaoke plus disco, games and other fun. Tickets are £10, which includes a curry and a pint, and are available from the club or the hospice.

The fundraising drive is also being supported by Hartlepool United mascot H’Angus.
