CANCER – the women of Hartlepool and East Durham are coming to get you.

The search is being stepped up for entrants for this year’s Hartlepool Race for Life. And there’s a new twist for 2015 with both a five kilometre and a 10 kilometre route for runners to choose from.

Cancer Research UK’s Hartlepool event manager Anna Thompson said: “There is a 10k event this year as well which might be for the more serious runner.”

This year’s fundraiser will be held along Hartlepool Promenade on Sunday, July 5. Every day 40 people are diagnosed with cancer in the North East.

That’s why Cancer Research UK is calling on women in Hartlepool to fight back against this devastating disease. As well as raising funds for life-saving research, the race is perfect for those setting themselves a fitness goal.

Anna added: “We’re urging women of all ages, shapes and sizes to take on Race for Life in their region and sign up now.

“Race for Life is non-competitive. It’s not about being fit or fast. Most women are able to walk 5k in an hour while chatting and having fun. Or they can choose to jog, run or even dance around the course if they prefer.

“If you’re looking for an opportunity to get active, there’s no better time to take on Race for Life.”

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, in partnership with Tesco, raises millions of pounds every year to help beat cancer sooner by funding life-saving research.

Last year, 1,263 women took part in Race for Life in Hartlepool and raised a fantastic £64,805. This year, organisers need the women and girls of Hartlepool to stride out to help raise even more money in 2015.

Money raised through Race for Life allows Cancer Research UK’s doctors, nurses and scientists to advance research which is helping to save the lives of men, women and children across Hartlepool.

Cancer survival rates have doubled since the 1970s and Cancer Research UK’s work has been at the heart of that progress. But more funds and more supporters are needed to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.

Anna continued: “We’re calling on the brave ladies of Hartlepool to show their fighting spirit once more and take on cancer at this year’s event.”
