The glorious summer sun which has covered Hartlepool and East Durham for days has disappeared.

But weathermen are hopeful it could be on the way back.

Temperatures have plummeted and the sunshine has been replaced by dark clouds and rain, with more of the same being predicted for tomorrow.

But the good news is a return to dry and sunny conditions is being forecast for next week.

Experts are expecting ground frost overnight but with warmer days.

In the longer term, late June and early July is likely to see some dry and fine weather at first but more rain could be on the way.
