A charity is calling on people in Hartlepool to get baking and put the kettle for its summer fundraising campaign.

Marie Curie, which supports people with terminal illness and their families, launched its Blooming Great Tea Party in town yesterday.

Fundraisers for the charity hope the event will encourage more people in Hartlepool to support the work or Marie Curie o a regular basis.

Lisa Wild, community fundraiser for the Teesside area, said: “Every pound raised will help Marie Curie Nurses care for someone living with a terminal illness in Teesside and their family.

“We would love people in Hartlepool to support us in our fundraiing and would encourage more people to sign up and volunteer.”

The Blooming Great Tea Party, inspired by the country’s love for baking, runs from June 20-29.

The charity says it is a great excuse to get together with loved ones and dosomething big or small.

It has raised over £4.5 million since the campaign started eight years ago.

Lisa added all the money raised in the North East is spent in the region.
