ONE of football’s hard men will be in Hartlepool next weekend to support a town charity.

Neil ‘Razor’ Ruddock is backing Hartlepool & District Hospice at a sportsman’s dinner event, being held at Hartlepool United Supporters Club next Saturday, May 25.

The former Liverpool, Spurs and England defender was recognised as one of football’s toughest competitors during a lengthy playing career, and has built up a good reputation since moving onto the after dinner circuit.

Ruddock, who also proved to be a big hit during a stint on ITV’s I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here, has been brought to Hartlepool by town-based events organiser Brian Smith of Top Flight Entertainment.

Brian said: “Razor Ruddock comes with a great reputation, people who have had him at similar events in the past can’t speak highly enough of him.

“He has had a great career and has some great stories from his time in the game.

“It promises to be a great evening and hopefully we can raise a decent amount of money for Hartlepool & District Hospice.

“The hospice means a lot to a lot of people in the town and it’s many supporters will be delighted to be raising money for the cause.”

While Ruddock will be the main attraction, Brian has also organised an auction to help boost the coffers which features signed memorabilia from the likes of Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard.

Janice Forbes, the hospice’s community fundraiser, said: “I would like to thank Brian for choosing Hartlepool & District Hospice to be a beneficiary from the Neil ‘Razor’ Ruddock sportsman’s dinner.

“His support is very much appreciated and the money raised from this event will fund the specialist care services we provide to local people.”

The hospice receives 34 per cent of its funding from the Government, but the rest needs to be raised through events and with the support of kind-hearted residents and event organisers.

The money raised and donated will help to maintain the specialist palliative care services.

Doors open at 7pm on the night. Tickets for the event are priced at £25, which includes a pie and peas supper, and are available from Brian on 07513484768.
