Readers hit out at Hartlepool £13,000 carpets blunder
Hartlepool Borough Council, which is building the Centre for Independent Living (CIL) in Burbank Street has said the cost to the authority of replacing the carpets was £13,500.
A council spokesman said the carpets were unsuitable for the dementia and autism friendly environment that it wants to create.

Hide AdThe authority has not said exactly why the carpets were unsuitable despite being asked by the Mail.
Dozens of people commented on the story on the Mail’s website including catalan who said: “There needs to be a proper inquiry into this. Congrats to the Mail for given this the publicity it deserves. Unbelievable”.
Chris said: “What a bunch of idiots. If they’re so determined to continuously blame the government for budget cuts, then every purchase the council make should be scrutinized and justified, before increasing our council tax bills.”
