Hartlepool Borough Council, which is building the Centre for Independent Living (CIL) in Burbank Street has said the cost to the authority of replacing the carpets was £13,500.

A council spokesman said the carpets were unsuitable for the dementia and autism friendly environment that it wants to create.

The authority has not said exactly why the carpets were unsuitable despite being asked by the Mail.
