BUDDING Gordon Ramseys and Nigella Lawsons are being given the chance to create a signature dish for Hartlepool in a competition.

Hartlepool Borough Council has joined forces with Hartlepool College of Further Education to stage the Hartlepool’s Best Dish 2012 competition.

The fun competition, formerly known as Hartlepool Masterchef, aims to bring people of all ages and cooking abilities together.

It will be held at the college, with heats commencing on Monday, October 29, and depending on the number of entries they will continue through to Wednesday, October 31.

Heat winners will then go through to the grand final on Friday, November 2.

Contestants will have two hours to make one healthy, balanced dish and the recipe must cost a maximum of £10 and include at least one of the recommended five a day.

As well as a top prize of £100, there will be second and third prizes of £75 and £50.

Irene Cross, a neighbourhood development officer with the council, said: “The competition has become a popular annual event and we are looking to build on its success in previous years.

“We have changed the name of the competition to emphasise its fun, amateur nature and we want to stress that it is open to people of all cooking abilities.”

Last year’s competition was won by 13-year-old Katie Jukes who is urging people to enter.

“Taking part in the competition was great fun and I really enjoyed myself. I’d certainly recommend it to others,” she said.

The competition is open to individuals and groups (groups should comprise 2 or 3 people – if under the age of 12 competitors must be accompanied by an adult). The minimum entry age is eight and there is no maximum age limit.

The closing date for applications is noon on Friday, October 12, and application forms can be obtained from Ms Cross, on (01429) 855560 or by emailing:
