The red carpet was rolled out last night as Billy Elliot arrived in Sunderland.
Local stars were welcomed to the Sunderland Empire as the hit musical, set in Easington Colliery, came to the theatre.
The show’s press night saw famous faces in the audience after they were greeted by Easington Colliery Brass Band who braved the bad weather to perform for people outside.
Among those to see the show were Emmerdale star Charlie Hardwick, Steps singer Faye Tozer, who lives in Boldon, The Mayor and Mayoress of Sunderland, Coun Barry Curran and his wife Carol, and Googlebox’s County Durham family Betty and Mark Moffatt and their daughter Ava.
The musical runs at the Empire until Saturday, April 30. Click here to book tickets.
