Residents’ recycling has risen

RESIDENTS have been thanked for supporting a council’s new waste service which has increased recycling by about 20 per cent.

New grey bins have been delivered to most of Hartlepool’s 42,000 homes over the past few weeks and early indications show recycling has gone up from 490 tonnes in the same period last year, to 590 tonnes.

Waste team leader Fiona Srogi said: “I’d like to thank residents for supporting the new service and for their patience when problems have occurred.”

The grey bins have replaced the white and blue bags. Households have retained the blue boxes, brown and green bins. Residents are being asked to ensure they put waste in the correct container, and to ensure their bins and containers are put out no later than 7.30am on the day of collection. More information on what can and cannot be recycled can be found on the Council’s website at
