Investigation launched after firefighters tackle blaze at derelict building in Hartlepool

An investigation has been launched into the cause of a fire at a derelict building in Hartlepool.

Firefighters were called to a building known as the Old Farm House, on Owton Manor Lane, at around 7.25pm on Wednesday, January 13.

Three fire engines and one aerial rescue platform from Billingham, Hartlepool, Saltburn attended the incident, along with Cleveland Police officers.

Firefighters spent more than two hours tackling the blaze using eight breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, a thermal imaging camera and positive pressure ventilation.

During the incident residents were advised to keep their windows and doors closed due to low lying smoke.

Cleveland Fire Brigade has confirmed that the cause of the fire is under investigation and said that the building was left severely damaged by the fire.

Firefighters left the scene at 9.53pm.
