A ROAD has reopened after an accident caused a build-up of rush hour traffic in Hartlepool.

The A689 into town was closed at the Rossmere Way junction after the accident involving a car at around 9am on Thursday.

Cleveland Police have confirmed the road is now clear and open as normal to traffic.

One eye-witness said of the earlier disruption: “The A689 coming in to town has been closed at the roundabout next to the Owton Lodge. Traffic was being diverted right down towards Seaton Carew.”

He added the traffic build-up was “a nightmare and it was stretching back as far as Greatham.”

Paramedics also attended the incident but there are no reports of any injuries.
