A woman was hurt today when a gas canister exploded inside a hog roast van at a popular shopping centre.

The drama unfolded at the Teesside Park retail centre near Stockton at 10.50am after reports that a gas canister had exploded inside the Hog Roast Company van.

Police attended, along with the fire brigade and ambulance service.

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: "One woman has suffered minor injuries, but no one else was injured."

Roads into Teesside Park were closed and the surrounding areas evacuated until further notice as a safety precaution.

The spokesperson added: "Officers would like to thank everyone for their patience whilst they deal with the incident and will provide an update once Teesside Park has reopened."

The roads into the park were reopened at about 12.30pm.
