Robbery accused in court

A MAN was due to appear at court this morning charged with a robbery at a newsagent’s in which he claimed he was armed.

The 44-year-old man, from Hartlepool, is alleged to have walked into Cora’s, in the town’s Vicarage Gardens, before telling staff he was armed and demanding money from the till.

The man was arrested shortly after the incident, which is said to have taken place at 1.50pm on Friday.

He was charged with robbery on Saturday and remanded to appear at Hartlepool Magistrates’ Court this morning.
