LOVE is in the air at a family park.
Romance has arrived in Hartlepool’s Ward Jackson Park in the run up to Valentine’s Day.
The greenspace has been given a red facelift as staff at its Place in the Park Cafe prepare for February 14.
Hearts are adorning the walls and everything from cakes to fried eggs are being served up in the emotive shape.
Maria Harrison, who runs the cafe, said: “It’s a bit of fun and adds some colour at this time of year.
“You take the Christmas decorations down and it can all look a bit bare, so doing this lifts it again.
“We’ve been making cakes and shortbread in the shape of hearts and even fried eggs on the breakfasts are being served heart-shaped.
“We’ll do anything for a bit of fun and to put smiles on people’s faces.”
Maria said the staff try and do at least four themes a year with Easter, Halloween and Christmas seeing the cafe transformed regularly.
It has also become an art gallery and held Christingle services as Maria tries to welcome local groups and charities to use the facility.
She added: “It’s a great community venue in a beautiful setting and it’s here for the people of the area.
“All the staff get involved in making the place a nice place to visit and I can’t stand bare walls. It’s been fun as well finding as many hearts as we can.
“This might be a bit of a reminder to all the men out there as well so they don’t forget!”
