A COLLEGE sports officer will be rubbing shoulders with some of the most famous names in football at a prestigious awards event at the weekend.
Rose Fraser, sports development officer at East Durham College in Peterlee, will be attending the Professional Footballers’ Association Awards ceremony on Sunday at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London.
The event is widely regarded as one of the biggest of its kind and sees players from across the country competing for honours.
Rose has been invited to the ceremony in recognition of the work she does at grassroots level.
She said: “It’s a privilege and an honour to represent East Durham College at these awards.
“I’m sure it will be a wonderful evening, mixing with the stars of the England team and of course the other Premier League players, so this calls for a very special evening gown – I can’t wear my East Durham College tracksuit.”
There are two awards presented on the evening, with the players voting for their Player of the Year and the football writers naming their Footballer of the Year – the oldest award of its type in the world.
Manchester City trio David Silva, Sergio Aguero and Joe Hart are among the six nominees for the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award. Scott Parker of Tottenham, Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie of Arsenal complete the shortlist.
Aguero is competing with Gareth Bale, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Daniel Sturridge, Kyle Walker and Danny Welbeck for the Young Players’ prize.
