A four-car crash caused delays on the A19 this morning - with Sunderland city centre checks creating another headache.

The incident at 8am on the northbound carriageway – near to the junction with the A690 – led to long delays for commuters.

Police say the incident was cleared before 9am, but officers were still on the scene trying to clear the long tailbacks.

Motorists heading through Sunderland centre are also facing problems as a traffic survey is being carried out on both sides of the Wearmouth Bridge.
