ADVENTUROUS Hartlepool people are buying Christmas presents with a difference this year by taking to the water.

Bosses at Hartlepool Marina say they’ve seen considerable interest in people snapping up vouchers for everything from sailing experiences to trying out the Thunder Cat power boats.

The Hartlepool Mail told earlier this year how the marina had taken on a new addition to its facilities – a £62,000 41ft luxury yacht called It’ll Be Fine.

It can carry eight people, with one of them being a qualified skipper who is provided by Hartlepool Marina.

The vessel is available for both day sails and for people who fancy an overnight berth at anywhere from Newcastle Quayside to Whitby – or even mooring offshore at the Farne Islands and taking in the wildlife as the sun goes down.

It is proving to be a hit with people on the hunt for Christmas gifts with a difference.

Hartlepool Marina Ltd director Adam Henderson, who runs the marina with dad Allan, said: “We have had a lot of different requests. People are booking vouchers for a session to a certain value.”

He said the vouchers qualify people to go on the luxury yacht or to choose other Marina attractions such as paddle boards or the Thunder Cat.

Adam added: “The numbers taking up vouchers at this time of the year compared to the same period last year are a lot higher.

“They are buying them for Christmas, but they can save them to be used when the weather and the water has warmed up a bit.”
