An energy broker celebrating a decade in business has looked back on helping more than 4,000 firms to cut around £10m from their bills.
Peterlee man John Lewins runs Phoenix Energy, which advises commercial and domestic customers on how to save money on their utility bills.
The former Powergen area manager, from the Oakerside area, said: “I go out to their premises and give a free review of their bills and look for any obvious ways where we can save them money.”
John, who does not charge for his services, but gets commission from suppliers, added: “There is no obligation and no pressure, if the timing’s wrong and I can’t save them money, I put it in the diary and go back at an appropriate time.”
John, who has clients all over the region, warned that the director of British Gas said last week that prices are expected to rise again this winter and added: “It’s something everybody should be checking regularly.”
His East Durham clients include Boccadillos in Shotton, Maddison Carpets in Horden and Dreams Furnishings in Easington.
John said it was satisfying helping people to save money and he enjoys finding out about the workings of businesses so he can do his best to help cut their costs.
John has helped Hartlepool firms and organisations, including the Salaam Centre, in Murray Street.
He said he saved the centre £1,100 after getting the facility to switch to a different supplier to get a better deal.
John has also helped Masala Lounge, Borthwick Memorials, and the now-defunct Garlands Call Centre.
