School children get a preview of new £45m leisure park as job recruitment begins

Children from the Ribbon School in Murton have been given a tour of the phase two project of Dalton Park, which will generate 500 jobs.

The visit aimed to give the children a sneak peak of the site, show how buildings are constructed and how sites are managed.

They also learned about how important health and safety is in the building process.

Each pulled on a hard hat and a hi-vis jacket as they were given the tour by main building contractors Bowmer and Kirkland.

Louise Thompson, the centre’s marketing manager, was delighted to welcome the children to Dalton Park

She said: “Phase two is going to be an important and exciting addition to life in our community as well as the region.

“It’s not often that children get the chance to see and learn about the building process, especially one this size with lots of components such as a cinema and a range of restaurants.

“They thoroughly enjoyed themselves and can’t wait to come back when everything is open.”

The extension work is continuing, with the first restaurant openings planned for this summer.

The finished development will feature a Cineworld, which is preparing to begin its recruitment campaign, with jobs already on offer at the new KFC, Pizza Express and Frankie and Bennie’s restaurants.

The new section will also feature a Morrisons supermarket, a non-food store, petrol station, pub and hotel.

Work on the plot began last May.

The new jobs will join 500 already created through the first phase of the centre, which was built on a former pit site.
