School holiday activities being held at RSPB Saltholme

Families have the chance to enjoy a range of events based on beloved children's books and authors at a nature reserve.

Story time at Saltholme, on the outskirts of Hartlepool, runs throughout the summer and features exciting activities themed around a different book or author each week.

Hundreds of families have been getting closer to nature and their favourite tales this summer - with more exciting themes planned.

Activities include crafts, making smelly potions, writing magical nature spells, creating bug homes and planting vegetables to take home.

Aimee Lee, visitor experience manager at RSPB Saltholme, said: “This summer we have an amazing programme of activities planned for families - it’s great value fun for all.

“All of our activities will connect children with the nature around them through the eyes of their favourite stories and will challenge them to explore our wonderful nature reserve.

“Don’t forget we also have pond dipping, a play area, willow maze and water feature onsite - so there’s lots for little legs to explore this summer holidays!”

In addition to the craft activities there will also be daily storytelling at 2pm in the centre of the willow maze and an exciting trail around the Lake Walk, linked to the author or story of the week.

Aimee added: “We have some wonderful stories to share from hungry insects and naughty little bunnies to adventures to wild places, there is something for everyone this summer.

“Coming up soon we have The Lost Words, Julian Donaldson themed activities and Roald Dahl tales - so don’t miss out.”

The cost is free for members and £2 for non-members and pond dipping is available at an additional cost of £2 for non-members and free for members.

RSPB Saltholme, which is off Tees Road, is open every day from 9.30am until 5pm.
