Coastguard searches were launched after wreckage from a yacht washed up on a beach.
Sections of what is believed to be an Oday 22 sailing yacht washed up on Redcar beach, with part of the stern marked with the word ‘Hartlepool’.
HM Coastguard say there were teams out searching for clues to the discovery on Saturday and have appealed for information to eliminate the possibility that anybody is in difficulty and needs help.
A spokesman for HM Coastguard said: “We had teams out searching for most of yesterday following the discovery of wreckage washed up on Redcar beach. “Investigations have idicated that the vessel was an Oday 22 sailing yacht, the wreckage is blue white and red in colour, and a section of the stern is marked ‘Hartlepool’.
“We would like to eliminate the possibility that anybody is in difficulty and requires further assitance.
“Inquires are continuing and search and rescue units remain on standby pending further information becomming available.”
