The searching is on for a community-minded resident to join a steering group set up to oversee a landlord licensing scheme in Hartlepool.

Hartlepool Borough Council is looking for a person living within its North and Coastal Neighbourhood Forum area to join another resident representative who has already been recruited from the South and Central Neighbourhood Forum area.

The voluntary role requires the successful applicant to attend quarterly meetings of the Selective Licensing Steering Group at Hartlepool Civic Centre.

The steering group, which is due to meet for the first time in November, has been set up to monitor and review the operation of a five-year selective licensing scheme covering Cornwall Street, Kimberley Street, Richmond Street, Rydal Street, Borrowdale Street, Sydenham Road, Burbank Street, St Oswald’s Street, Dent Street, Furness Street, Sheriff Street, Straker Street and Stephen Street.

The scheme, which was introduced in July, aims to improve the management standards and practices of private sector landlords and managing agents.

Councillor Kevin Cranney, chair of the Regeneration Services Policy Committee, said: “The steering group has a key role to play in ensuring the successful operation of the selective licensing scheme.

“It is vital that members are kept well informed about how the scheme is working and the resident representatives will be able to provide an important grassroots perspective.”
