THE search is on to find the next stage star to play the role of Joseph.
Maldo Productions is set to hold auditions to find the perfect candidate for the part of the biblical character, whose Technicolor Dreamcoat caused a stir among his brothers.
As well as looking for someone to fill the lead role, the community-based group, which was set up three years ago, also needs new members.
Joseph will be performed at Easington Social Welfare Centre, in Seaside Lane, Easington Colliery on May 23 and May 24, following the success of Maldo’s previous shows performed at the venue, including The Wiz.
Catherine Blakelock, from the group, said boys wishing to play Joseph need to have a good singing voice and should be aged eight to 18.
She added that the group, which has members aged 10 to 35, has also been in touch with Easington Community Science College to see if any students are interested in the part.
The group, run by a committee and headed by Wayne Malcolm and Stephen Dodds, is being split into two and the older members will be performing Rent – The Musical at East Durham College for two nights and one night at Durham’s Gala Theatre, also in the spring.
Auditions for Joseph start tomorrow at St Hild & St Helen Church, in Melbury Street, Dawdon, in Seaham, from 5.30pm and every Wednesday afterwards.
Any other budding stage stars can also go along.
