Seaton rail posters snapped up

VINTAGE railway posters by a Seaton Carew-born artist have sold for more than £3,000 at auction.

Six posters by Frank Henry Mason sold for a total of £3,360 after going under the hammer in London.

One emblazoned with the words “East Coast Landmarks, See Britain By Train” sold for £900, almost double the original estimate.

It was produced by Mr Mason for British Railways in around 1955 when he was 80.

A 1940 London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) poster advertising Whitby went for £850.

A 1930’s LNER poster, featuring the words East Coast Craft, “The Yorkshire Coble”, sold for £550.

Also snapped up by collectors for £260 were a LNER poster, “The Humber”, a 1930s LNER poster, East Coast Craft, which fetched £380, while an LNER poster, “Havens and Harbours”, went for £420.
