MEMBERS of a community allotment are devastated after a greenhouse window was smashed for the second time in two weeks.
Waverley Terrace Community Allotment, in Hartlepool, was first targeted on July 15, when a window was damaged by a brick.
Staff and volunteers were waiting for the window, which will cost £160 to repair, to be fixed, when a second window was smashed some time between Wednesday teatime and yesterday morning.
There are two greenhouses at the site and the same one, nearest to Rift House Rec, has been targeted each time.
Groups using the allotment, include the Route to Employment programme, Hartlepool MIND, primary schools and day centres.
Site supervisor Helen Hayles said: “We are really angry.
“It’s just mindless vandalism and it’s damaging a place that’s used by the community. It’s senseless.”
Ms Hayles said the group, run in partnership with Hartlepool Borough Council, Hartlepool College of Further Education, Hartlepool MIND and Disc, is looking at increasing security measures.
A Hartlepool Police spokeswoman said: “A caller reported damage which occurred at the allotments after a brick was thrown through a greenhouse at a community garden. We would appeal for anyone with information to come forward.”
Any witnesses are asked to call Hartlepool Police on (01642) 302178 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
