A MARTIAL arts instructor from Seaton Carew is looking forward to leading students to grading success on an upcoming European trip.

Sensei Tony Hudspith, instructor of the Kazoku Ryu Aikido club based in Hartlepool and Billingham will join eleven members when they travel to Brussels in Belgium later this week.

They will take part in a seminar to help enthusiastic Aikido followers develop their skills and forge friendships with other practitioners from across Europe. Successful students could also come back with black belts tied around their waists if they are successful in their gradings.

Tony, 40, who is a 3rd Dan, said: “The members of the club are very dedicated and many tend to train up to three times per week.

“The fact that what initially started with just me travelling to Brussels went on to gaining popularity and last year seven students accompanied me on the trip.

“Year on year the numbers are growing which is a positive indication on how well Aikido is growing in our region.”
The club meets at Northfield School in Billingham on a Friday from 7.30pm-9pm.

Classes are also held at Stranton Primary School in Hartlepool on Tuesdays and Thursdays and is due to introduce a new junior section soon to complement the one already at Billingham.

Tony added: “The group is really looking forward to the trip and I hope that we will return with some people having successfully graded for their next belt.”
