AN OPTICIANS firm has given its backing to this year’s sports awards with a message to Mail readers - get your entries in now.
Specsavers Hartlepool branch has once again supported our search for the ultimate in sporting local heroes, by becoming one of the main backers.
Stephen Wheatley, from the branch in the Middleton Grange Shopping Centre, said: “We wanted to sponsor these awards not just because there is an obvious link between good vision and most sports or because of all the “Should’ve gone to Specsavers” gags that are directed towards referees and sporstmen alike.
“But because we believe that sport within the community is really important. It crosses all ages and boundaries, leads to greater self-confidence, respect towards others and greater pride within the individuals, teams, schools, clubs and indeed the wider community.”
“We are proud to help recognise some of our sporting stars and help celebrate their fantastic achievements.
“We are honoured also to help give acknowledgement and rewrad to some of the people who quietly work behind the scenes, week in week out to help their favourite club and sports.”
This year’s sports awards is searching for the very best. The full list is below.
There’s plenty of time to put forward your favourites before we announce the deadline for entries.
Then it’s over to the judges to draw up a shortlist before the glittering finale in early October.
There’s a long way to do before we get to that stage - and that means there’s plenty of time for you to come forward with your favourities.
Put yourself, or another deserving cause, in the running for honours.
