Carnival organisers have hailed all the entrants in a traditional carnival competition.
The 91st annual Hartlepool Carnival Queen has been chosen after a tough competition held in the town’s Headland Social Club.
The winner was Shannon Gough, while Becca Johnson came second and Amy Chapman was named in third place.
There were nine entrants in the contest and organisers were delighted with the eveing of entertainment staged as part of the annual show.
A Hartlepool Carnival spokesman said: “We had nine girls who all looked amazing. Everyone was a winner but one of them had to be picked as the Carnival Queen. It’s a tradition and part of the carnival itself. Most carnivals are about tradition and ours is in its 91st year.
“It was a good night and we had a singer on and a tombola and everyone had a good time and enjoyed themselves.
“The winner will now open the fair on Thursday and she can attend various events during the carnival and help with the judging.”
The spokesman added: “We’re hoping we have a good successful carnival and we want to thank our local traders and businesses for supporting us. We are hoping to have a hugely successful carnival.”
The carnival’s Cute Kids competition is set to be held on Saturday, August 1, from noon to 2pm at Headland Social Club, in the town’s Throston Street.
Entry forms are available from CMB Fruiterers and Florist, in Northgate, and at the Headland Social Club.
There will also be a table-top sale held at the venue from noon to 2pm which is run by the club’s ladies section. Tables are £3.50 each and bookings can be made by calling 01429 233216.
