Residents living near to the allotment site in King Oswy Drive were ordered to stay indoors by firefighters called to the area at 7.30pm, yesterday.

A fire in a shed containing five gas cylinders had broken out.

Crews from Hartlepool Stranton spent an hour and a half at the site tackling the fire and making the cylinders safe.

An investigation into the cause of the blaze is being carried out.
