It has not been revealed how many staff the new store will employ or exactly when it will open.

Work has been going on for several months now at the unit which appears to have been made larger and has seen the customer service desk relocated upstairs.

Founded in 1947 in Sweden, H&M sells women’s, men’s and kids clothes.

The group includes the brands & Other Stories, Cheap Monday, COS, Monki and Weekday as well as H&M Home.

The company has more than 3,900 stores worldwide.

The flagship store in Middleton Grange Shopping Centre has been empty since M&S moved to the town’s Anchor Retail Park in June last year.
