The If we can, you can Challenge officially gets under way today and the hugely successful search for business people with real flair is now in its fourth year.

Hartlepool’s three previous winners have all gone on to enjoy success as entrepreneurs.

It could be your turn this time.

The challenge is open to any individual who is thinking of starting up a business or looking to grow their existing firm.

All we ask is that they share their story and add themselves to a growing online community of entrepreneurs at

To date, 955 members have become part of that community which means that business people have a way of exchanging views and ideas – and that way help to promote the region’s shared entrepreneurial drive.

Carole Beverley is Chief Executive of the Entrepreneurs’ Forum which organises the challenge.

Carole (pictured) said: “It is about celebrating and encouraging people that have the vision, passion and determination to make a business work.

“The North-East is a region that is experiencing some of the highest levels of unemployment. Perhaps entrepreneurship is the key for people to get back into work and also add value to the region’s economy.

“The Challenge can help people to take their first steps toward setting up a business and growing that business.

“Over the next eight weeks we want to encourage as many people as possible to enter their businesses for the If we can you can Challenge.”

As of today, entrants have until midnight on Sunday, May 8 to register their entries.

The If we can, you can campaign is driven by the Entrepreneurs’ Forum and funded by One North East.
