A mum-of-two is looking to help others after being supported through a major weight-loss programme.
Clare Garside, 34, from Blackhall, is celebrating five years of success after losing 3st 10lbs with Slimming World.
And she is now planning to start her own group as she takes on a consultant role with the organisation to help others in her community.
For years Clare struggled with her self-confidence and hid behind dark clothes.
“I always dreaded social occasions because I couldn’t just grab something from my wardrobe,” she said.
Clare had battled with her weight for many years and felt she yo-yo’d without ever achieving success.
She added: “I always started the week off well, but soon would fall into the trap of going back to old eating habits.
“I felt I was missing the support I needed from people who understood how I felt about being overweight.”
Clare felt she could no longer blame the baby weight when her two girls were six years and almost 18 months old.
“I wanted to lose weight for myself but also to be more fit and active for the girls,” said Clare.
She choose Slimming World because there was a group on her doorstep, and she lost half a stone in two weeks.
Clare added: “The plan allowed me to be in control of what I ate.
“A few simple changes meant that I could cook my family traditional home-cooked food that fit in with our busy lives.
Clare will launch her group, meeting on Wednesdays at Blackhall Community Centre.
