Spirits remain high on Jeff Stelling's March for Men

The Sky Sports presenter has completed day six of his March for Men in aid of Prostate Cancer UK which has seen him hit the 150 mile mark on his journey from Exeter to Newcastle.

The presenter is walking 15 marathons in 15 days a year after taking part in 10 marathon walks for the charity.

The challenge, which kicked off on Friday, June 2 and will run until to Friday, June 16, will see Jeff is walk 400 miles from Exeter City’s St James Park to Newcastle United’s St James’s Park.

Along the way he is visiting over 40 football clubs and will be joined by some famous faces and lots of other marchers.

Heading from Chester FC to Everton via Tranmere Rovers and Liverpool FC yesterday, Jeff was joined by a 90 strong group for the latest leg of the challenge.

Those walking alongside him included football favourites such as Robbie Fowler and Kevin Ratcliffe as well as DJ Colin Murray.

And despite the heavy wind and rain of previous days Jeff said spirits remain high in his team.

Jeff said: “It is going really well.

“We have just passed the 150 mile mark and its been a lovely sunny day in contrast to Tuesday which was like a tropical rainstorm.

“Tuesday was unquestionably the worst day so far weather-wise.”

On Tuesday the TV pundit and presenter came up against torrential rain and strong winds in the fifth leg of his journey from Exeter to Newcastle.

He was joined by World Cup-winning goalkeeper Gordon Banks among those who set Jeff and his team of walkers on their way from Stoke City that day.

The legendary goalkeeper – who won the World Cup with England in 1966 – set the walkers on their way before they took in the Staffordshire countryside.

Jeff is now a over third of the way there, and with over £160,000 raised for Prostate Cancer UK so far, is hoping he can hit his target of £500,000.

Jeff added: “But there is a good atmosphere and there is a big group of us, about 90 people walking together and we seem, to be making a bit of an impact.

“People have been really generous and putting a lot of money in our tins, which is great as most people donate online these days.”

Speaking to the Mail earlier this week he added: “I’ve been looking for landmarks, and going through 100 miles was a big one.

“Now I’m a third of the way through, which is another little target ticked off.

“We’ve raised a lot of money so far, which is great, and hopefully a lot of awareness as well.”
