Spoo-Quay goings on are set to return in Hartlepool

Spooky goings-on will return to Hartlepool thanks to a museum event which has become an annual attraction.

The National Museum of the Royal Navy Hartlepool holds its Spoo-Quay event on Friday, October 28, and Saturday, October 29.

And once again, hundreds of people are expected to come along for more than two hours of ghoulish fun, games and live performances each day.

There’s lots to look forward to at this year’s Spoo-Quay.

The museum’s historic quayside will be transformed into a Halloween experience between 5.30pm and 8pm each day.

Among the huge range of events, there will be creepy crawlies to hold, and Mr Twister the magician will be there.

Visitors can get to enjoy craft workshops, and there will be storytelling for children which will be on board the oldest warship afloat in Europe, HMS Trincomalee.

Creative people can also enter their pumpkins into a competition, where there will be prizes to be won.

The live entertainment theme continues as there will also be performances from East Durham College.

College representatives will be bringing their own touch to the museum’s Fighting Ships exhibition which puts people in the heart of everyday drama on board a warship going to battle in 1800.

The college will bring Fighting Ships to life in a spooky fashion.

The crowds will also get to watch the dance group Casting Call which will be performing a piece put together especially for Spoo-Quay.

It is titled If You Go Down To The Woods tonight.

General manager of the museum, Roslyn Adamson, is looking forward to the event and said: “We love hosting Spoo-Quay. Every year it is well attended by hundreds of families, and there is so much to experience here.”

Tickets cost £5 each or family tickets are available and they are made up of two adults and three children for £20, £17 for one adult and three children, while under-twos go free.

They must be paid for and collected in advance from the museum admissions desk.

Online booking will also be available from mid-October at the website at nmrn.org.uk/Hartlepool.
