Sport in Hartlepool and surrounding area given £1.1m boost

In a major boost to grassroots sports clubs in the North East, Sport England has announced that five local sports groups from Hartlepool and the surrounding area have secured a total of £230,880 investment from its ‘Inspired Facilities’ Olympic and Paralympic legacy fund.

On the list of the lucky sports groups are: Hartlepool and District Indoor Bowls Club, which will receive £49,300; Billingham Golf Club and Sedgfield Squash Club who will both be granted £50,000; Tees Valley Target Sports Club which will receive £49,980; and Sedgefield Cricket Club which will be given £31,600.

Sport England has also committed an additional £40 million of National Lottery funding to extend the hugely popular legacy fund until 2017.

Sport England Chair Nick Bitel said: “A year on from the Olympics, it’s inspiring to see how our investment is transforming sports facilities in hundreds of communities.”
