Stabbing victim’s home burgled

THE home of a woman who was stabbed to death was targeted by burglars just hours after she was killed.

Christine Henderson, 50, was stabbed to death at a house in Cherwell Terrace, on the Brambles Farm estate in Middlesbrough, in the early hours of Monday morning.

It has since emerged her home in Kent Avenue, in the Belle Vue area of Hartlepool, was targeted by burglars later on the same day.

Detectives probing the death of Miss Henderson, who was visiting a friend at the time of her death, have arrested a 28-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man on suspicion of burglary.

Both have been bailed as inquiries continue.

Shortly after Christine’s body was discovered, police issued an urgent appeal for help to trace her 47-year-old partner Graham Barry Gibson and he was later arrested on suspicion of murder.

He was eventually arrested in Middlesbrough town centre on Monday morning, and appeared at Teesside Crown Court yesterday charged with murder.

It is believed mum-of-three Christine was living with the 47-year-old in Hartlepool, and had been planning on moving to the Middlesbrough area.

Neighbours described Christine, originally from Newcastle, as “nice enough, quite shy and retiring”.

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: “A 19-year-old male and 28-year-old female were arrested on suspicion of burglary and have been bailed pending further enquiries.”

Meanwhile, at Teesside Crown Court yesterday, Gibson’s defence team asked for time to seek a psychiatric report on him and said he planned to deny the charge.

Gibson, from Kent Avenue, Hartlepool, who wore a white T-shirt, did not speak during the eight-minute hearing and just nodded his head in reply to a timetable for the case given by the Recorder of Middlesbrough Judge Peter Fox.

Gibson’s lawyer, Alex Bousfield, said that the defence would be seeking a psychiatric report quickly.

There was no application for bail.

Gibson was remanded in custody until August 22 when he will be formally asked to give a plea to the charge.

A potential date for his trial at Teesside Crown Court was fixed for October 15 after leading counsel and expert witnesses have been arranged.

Anyone with information about Christine’s death is asked to call Cleveland Police on (01642) 303285 or 303288.
