Stars created for the lovers

The stars in the heavens are many,

All festooned on a black velvet drape.

Polished by the speed of space expansion,

And cut to symmetrical and elegant shape.

They guided our ancestors over land and sea,

In ones, in groups, then large constellations.

Names were seconded by the gods and nature,

Identifying and adding to their revelations.

Their beauty, elegance, light and great mystery

Was noted, exploited and praised in great detail.

Astronomy, a science for pushing back boundaries,

No task for the faint-hearted on that star-studded trail.

But I believe they were created for lovers,

To lighten up evenings and romantic walks.

Whilst providing a comparison for eyes that sparkled

And a subject for lips not wanting to talk.
