PARISHIONERS were treated to a slap up meal thanks to generous school pupils.
Youngsters from English Martyrs School and Sixth Form College, in Hartlepool, took time out of their usual lessons to prepare, cook and serve a two-course meal to parishioners at St Cuthbert’s Church, off Stratford Road.
School staff said it was a great chance for the pupils to develop new skills and meet new people.
Nine pupils from Year 9 cooked a shepherd’s pie followed by either apple pie or cheesecake inside the day centre next to the church.
Jeremy Cain, Hartlepool pastoral area youth ministry co-ordinator, said: “The group of Year 9 pupils from English Martyrs prepared and served the meal to a group of around 20 parishioners.
“This was a good opportunity for the pupils to develop different skills including team work and to give them the chance to go into the community and meet new people.”
It was the first time the pupils had cooked a meal for parishioners in the local community in town.
