BRAVE youngster Josh Dawson has the support of a group of kind-hearted students who are supporting him in one of their university projects.

Jennifer McNeill, 28, and three of her fellow students were set the challenge of organising an event as part of their tourism management degree at Teesside University.

After reading about Josh’s battle with cancer, the group decided the project was the perfect opportunity to show their support for the Seaton Carew schoolboy.

Jennifer, who lives at Hartlepool Marina, said: “We are more concerned about raising the money for Josh than we are about getting the good grades.

“We don’t have a target, but hopefully we can just raise as much as possible.”

Thousands of pounds has been raised for Josh since the five-year-old Holy Trinity Primary School pupil was diagnosed with an ependymoma, a tumour of the brain’s support cells.

That cash is going to help make Josh’s dreams come true by paying for a trip to Legoland, with all extra money raised going to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary.

The fundraising total will be boosted again by the event organised by the students, which will be held at the Dickens Inn, in Middlesbrough, on Wednesday, March 13.

Popular band the Style Selektors will be performing with other highlights of the event including a beauty therapy session, cake sales and a raffle.

Jennifer, who is organising the event with Kirsty Lewis, 21 Krystal Forster-George, 22, and Becky Lloyd, 21, is hoping for a big turn out.

The former Hartlepool College of Further Education student said: “We had been looking around for a local cause which we could support and then we read about Josh.

“It’s awful what he’s having to go through but hopefully we can help to add to the all of the brilliant fundraising which has already been done for him.”

Tickets can be booked in advance now, priced at £4. They will also be available on the door costing £5.

The students are also asking for any raffle prizes which could be donated ahead of the event.
