A BAPTIST Church is to hold a concert in aid of an international charity later this month.

Oxford Road Baptist Church, in Hartlepool’s Oxford Road, is gearing up to host the Sunbeam Singers who are giving a concert in aid of Good News Ministry, India, which supports people in that part of the world.

The Sunbeam Singers will be performing on Saturday, November 16, from 7pm at Oxford Road Baptist Church. People are asked to enter through the Caledonian Road entrance. Eric Reeve, of Oxford Road Baptist Church, said: “The work of Good News Ministry India (GNM) began in 1988 on the wedding day of Chanti and Lily.

“Chanti is not only the founder of GNM but is also its current director and since 1988 GNM has grown to include 50 churches, 35 pastors, two orphanages, a widow’s home and two pieces of land.

“After five years they recently completed a large building project and now have a three-storey building which will eventually house up to 50 very poor and needy widows. “We have been supporting Good News Ministry, India since 1996 and have gained support from our own church and many individual supporters in the Teesside area.”

Funds that have been raised have helped many people in India to overcome the loss of homes and fishing boats after the Boxing day Tsunami of 2004 and also help to rebuild homes that were lost in a place called Repalle after a canal burst its banks during the monsoon season of 2008.

Officials say through the kindness and generosity of many people in the region area funds have also been provided for six bore wells, rice distributions, eye, cataract and other operations, medication and medicines, bibles, clothing and regular sponsorship of children, widows, pastors and their families.

Schools have also benefited and many of the children from the orphanages have received gifts at Christmas time.

The current Oxford Road Baptist Church building, in Hartlepool, opened its doors way back in 1914.

Church leaders recently held a series of ‘Come and See’ events at the Church to encourage more people who may never have been inside to get a greater understanding of the work they do.

Tickets for the Sunbeam Singers concert are available from Eric and Ann Reeve at £6 each.
