Rain and blustery winds at the seafront and at Newcastle Airport, where most of the aircraft take off from, mean today's flying programme has been severely truncated.

It was due to start at 12.30pm, but has been delayed until 2pm, and instead of lasting until 5pm, will be finished by 4pm.

The ever-popular Battle Of Britain Memorial Flight, consisting of a Spitfire, Hurricane and Lancaster from the Second World War, was pulled from the programme yesterday.

Now more of the attractions have been grounded by the weather, resulting in a revised - and much-reduced - flying schedule.

Notable absences include the RAF Falcons parachutists, The Blades display team, the AeroSuperBatics Wingwalkers, and the Royal Navy Swordfish.
