The Peterlee-based trainer is confident of seeing “another” glimpse of the “old Glenn Foot” this weekend.

Foot is booked to appear on the Fighting Chance-promoted show at Gateshead Leisure Centre on Saturday night.

The Sunderland crowd favourite began the year in impressive fashion when he defeated Poland’s Lukasz Janik at Houghton earlier this month.

“Glenn looks back to his old self,” Binns told the Echo. “We had a good chat the other day and he said he did not feel right before he fought Sam Eggington for the British and Commonwealth titles last summer.

“Watching him now, I don’t think there can be any doubts about him.

“His boxing skills, his punching, they both looked back to their best when he won at the Rainton Meadows Arena.

“I thought that was a superb performance and I’ll be looking for another this Saturday.”

Meanwhile, Mal Gates hopes to have Lee Mould back in action in the next few weeks.

The Sunderland fighter was forced to make a last-minute withdrawal from his ring return at Dunston on Friday night because of injury.

His match with the Czech Republic’s Michal Voyka had been due to be his first bout since losing to Adam Little for the vacant English title in Blackpool last summer.

But a stumble on a run ruled the South Shields-trained entertainer out of the Steve Wraith show at the Lancastrian Suite.

And with a Northern Area title fight fast approaching at Darlington on May 13 against Anth Hardy, Gates says it is vital he gets a bout soon.

“We’ll be back, we’ll keep rolling on,” said Gates.

“I have spoken to two promoters to try to get him on a show.

“He needs a four or six rounder.”
