Sunderland Ladies suffered their fourth WSL1 defeat in a row when Chelsea completed the double over the Lady Black Cats.

Carlton Fairweather's side had 'only' lost 2-1 in London last month, but the champions had an easy evening at Eppleton CW.

England star Claire Rafferty laid the basis of the victory with the opening two goals with Gemma Davison's goal just before the break ending the match as a contest.

Millie Bright added the fourth 18 minutes from time with Ji So Yun making it five.

Sunderland have now reached the mid point of the season without a single win and just three points above the drop zone.

Chelsea were soon on the front foot with Ji So Yun shooting over the home bar before the post came to Sunderland's aid when Carney hit the upright in the 11th minute.

Skipper Katie Chapman headed wide from a Carney cross midway through the half and it needed a great last-ditch Hayley Sharp tackle on Drew Spence to prevent an almost certain goal.

But a goal was inevitable and RAFFERTY'S 29th-minute volley from Carney's cross from the right put the Londoners ahead.

Beth Mead almost made a goal out of nothing six minutes from the break, only to fire over before Maddy Hill shot wide

Sunderland were made to pay in the 42nd minute as the Blues went upfield with Davison's pace opening up the home defence with RAFFERTY finishing from close range.

It was three a minute from the break, DAVISON getting a deserved goal from inside the six-yard box

It was better from Sunderland Ladies after the break as Furness shot wide after good run forward from midfield.

At the other end, Chapman headed over from a Carney corner and also brought a fine diving save from Rachael Laws.

But a fourth duly came in the 72nd minute, BRIGHT scoring with low right-foot shot from outside the box.

A fifth soon followed SO YUN showing nice balance and a crisp left-foot low shot into Laws's bottom left corner in the 77th minute.

Credit goes to Sunderland for continuing to plug away, Tori Williams effecting some good defensive work to deny sub Eni Aluko a sixth and Sharp blocking a So Yun shot in stoppage time.
