Super Saturday has started at the Heugh Battery Museum in Moor Terrace.

And organisers want to hear from even more professions who would like to join in with the offer throughout this summer.

Battery museum manager Diane Stephens said: “We are offering people from specific workplaces free entry to the museum on a Saturday and half price entry to any family they bring with them on the day.

“Visitors will need to bring proof that they work in each specific area, such as name badge, security pass, payslip, to qualify for the offer.”

One Super Saturday has already been held for teachers last month and NHS workers were given the offer last Saturday, June 10.

This Saturday, June 17, it is the turn of firefighters.

Dianne added: “We would like to invite people to nominate their workplace or profession for other Super Saturdays throughout the summer.”

The Heugh Battery Museum is situated on the site of the only First World War battlefield in Britain, where soldiers bravely defended the towns of Hartlepool and West Hartlepool against three German battlecruisers during the Bombardment of the town in 1914.

The battery’s latest initiative comes just weeks after it linked up with teachers in the town.

The museum hosted an open day for teachers to showcase it’s offer to schools on the subject of the war both at home and abroad.

Its aim was to inform teachers about the museum’s comprehensive school offering.

It also hoped to provide teaching staff with an opportunity to discuss with the museum’s volunteers the ways in which the museum can help to supplement any work schools are undertaking around the First World War.

Now comes the latest initiative.

To nominate a profession for Super Saturday, people should email [email protected] or contact Facebook @HeughBattery or Twitter @Heugh_Museum.
