TICKETS for a sportsman’s dinner featuring former England striker Malcolm Macdonald have sold out.

Supermac is heading to Hartlepool tomorrow night for the event in support of Hartlepool & District Hospice.

It is the second consecutive year the former Newcastle and Arsenal footballer has taken part in a sportsman’s dinner in support of the Wells Avenue-based hospice.

Last year’s event raised an impressive £2,392.

And hospice staff are delighted with the response of residents after all of the tickets for this year’s event were snapped up with time to spare.

The fundraising evening will be held at the Grand Hotel, in Swainson Street, Hartlepool.

Malcolm, who is also known for his role as one of the Three Legends on Real Radio’s football phone-in show, will look back on a successful career which saw him hit the net 193 times in 381 games.

He also scored six times for England on his way to earning 14 international caps.

As well as listening to Malcolm, people will also enjoy a meal and a performance from stand-up comedian Steffan Peddie on Friday.

The event, which was organised by the hospice in partnership with Heerema Fabrication, will also be attended by Hartlepool Mayor Stuart Drummond who will be joining the top table as a guest of honour.

Mayor Drummond said: “It’s my pleasure to support the hospice at their sportsman’s dinner and I’m glad to be a part of the fantastic work that they do for our community.

“I’m looking forward to seeing Supermac and hope everyone has a great time while helping to fund such a valuable service.”

Carol Sennett, the hospice’s corporate fundraiser, added: “We are delighted with the response we have had to this event as well as the wealth of support from companies, Heerema in particular who have been a real pleasure to work alongside.

“We are always very happy to welcome Mayor Drummond back to our events and we are grateful of his continued support.

“We’re looking forward to a great night and a spectacular fundraising result.”
