MEMBERS of a group that supports people with disabilities could be in with a chance of securing a £5,000 grant in a national scheme - with help from Mail readers.
Hartlepool Special Needs Support Group (HSNSG) has issued a heartfelt plea for people to help them win the cash prize in Lloyds Banking Group Community Fund.
If the Park Road-based organisation gets enough votes in the national incentive then the much-needed cash is theirs to plough into the running of the group.
The group was nominated by a relative of group supporter Ffion Williams.
Group manager Pat Allison said: “The scheme is happening all over the country and we are one of the groups to be nominated in this region.
“We are doing very well with our voting as our young volunteers have been instrumental in promoting the fact that we are nominated and sharing it on Facebook.
“Hopefully we are in with a chance of winning, but we need an extra push for people to vote.
“In this economic climate it would be wonderful if we won.
“It has been extremely difficult - not just for us, but for other groups and we could do with this to help us through these tough times.”
Lloyds hopes that by running the scheme it will help local organisations that inspire, support and unlock the potential of young people, support those organisations that matter most to people living locally and make a difference in communities.
Lloyds staff nominated local organisations that mattered most to them from March to April and these groups were then invited to submit an award application before undergoing a shortlisting process.
Voting is open to the public and runs until midnight on September 9.
Winning organisations will be notified by October 31.
