ENJOYABLE and interesting.

That’s how Ted Jackson remembers his 12 months as president of the Hartlepool branch of the Rotary Club.

And as he handed over the reins, he said: “I would encourage other people to come and join us.

Highlights of his 12 months have included a fundraising golf day for Macmillan Cancer Support, which was followed by an evening of entertainment featuring the George Colley Singers.

Rotary also held a sponsored Pancake Day event at the Grand Hotel and the Place in the Park, where customers handed over donations in return for a pancake and a cuppa.

Ted’s year of office also included the Christmas remembrance tree being unveiled in the Place in the Park, in Ward Jackson Park.

Between the four events, £2,025 was raised for Macmillan.

The Rotary Club of Hartlepool meets every Monday in the Grand Hotel, in Swainson Street, Hartlepool, from 5.45pm. Weekly activities usually include a two-course meal and a speaker.

Ted, 71,will remain a committee member within the town branch of Rotary despite stepping down as president.
