Amy Teal, 17, has been selected in the England Ladies’ Under-19s team for a prestigious 10-pin bowling event next month.

Talented Amy, from Hartlepool, is a member at Sunderland Excel Youth Bowling Club, and will represent England in their junior triple crown team.

Alongside her team-mates, she will take on Scotland, Ireland and Wales after coming through a gruelling year of qualifying competitions.

Amy, who is studying at Hartlepool Sixth Form College and earlier attended English Martyrs School, said: “It’s a really great honour to be able to represent my country.

“It’s a great bonus for something like this to happen playing a game that you love.

“I started 10-pin bowling when I was eight, and have grown a real love for it.

“I can’t wait for this event and to be able to play for England. This has given me more determination to compete in more European events, and then perhaps do some coaching in the future.

“I just love it. I’m a determined person, so when I like something, I want to be good at it.”

Amy, from the Rift House area of Hartlepool, started training for County Durham at the age of 13, when she was the youngest to represent the county.

This is her second call-up for England, and in 2014, she competed in the World Sports Festival, in Vienna, Austria.

Next month’s event will take place in Norwich, and to qualify, Amy finished in third place in a day-long trial against England’s top 20 under-19s.
